The Sunday Dramble

The Sunday Dramble

With the Summer Solstice behind us and the nights drawing in. I felt the need to make the most of those long evenings with a monster run. Most folks were around 300miles door to door. Gerry won the frugal challenge with 107.45mpg (mostly cause he was litterely pushing it, but more of that latter)
Leo and myself made our way to the meetup point.  Starbucks Milton where Rachel, Gerry, Mitch and Chris were already on the coffee.
Chris admitted his longest run to date was around 35 miles and that he’d  brocken that record already today!
We soon left and with it being fairly windy and with the temperatures at a seasonal high of around 12C we stopped for a bowl of soup in Crieff before some of the group enjoyed a somewhat spirited ride through the small glen to Dunkeld ?
From Dunkeld, with Rural Perthshire beckoning us along it’s scenic twists and turns we rambled on.  Stopping at a small still place which much to my dismay was shut☹️
It was at this point that Gerry’s bike (not so much milo as didnae go) packed in and despite all amounts of shoving it uphill it wouldn’t start.
Mitch pushed and shoved, and almost wore himself thin.. to be honest we didn’t think pushing the bike uphill was a good starting technique!
As you can see he’s just a pile of bones at the end!
Things were looking bad but in the end we resorted to violence in the form of kicking the side stand switch. This allowed the started to kick in again and the bike fired into life. Yeehaw!!
We were off again, Down the hill and into Pitlochry for some fuel and some much needed sustenance (cake).
As we left a very wet front arrived and with no signs of an Ark showing up, the waterproofs were donned.
We carried on winding our way through the countryside enjoying the royal views that wee could see  through the haze of vicious midges.
Honestly, they bit so hard  I thought I’d need stitches by the time we got to the ewe at fortingall!
Then on past the suicidal red squirrels that ran in front of my bike near the post office
next, we went over the hill at Ben lawyers and a brief stop at Callendar to get the blood flowing again. A final rondevous at McDonnalds Balloch before a lovely ride home.
Some folks managed 4 checkpoints today although I must have been looking the other way!
So a big thanks to everyone who came along today and made it a great run.
